The trick is to not make your cleaning sessions too long and only commit to two or three tasks per session. If you take too long to clean, you're likely to get tired or stressed, which will put you off next time.

Instead, try to schedule 2-3 longer cleanings per week, with certain tasks (like washing, cleaning the kitchen, etc.) being done daily or every other day.

"But I just don't have the motivation too!"

If you struggle with motivation—especially if you suffer from attention deficit disorder (ADD) or depression—you may decide to declutter your home using a diary, phone calendar, or one of the many apps on the market. Alternatively, if you have a reliable support network, you can ask them to nudge you when you find it difficult to maintain a self-care routine.

Another good way to give yourself some motivation is to treat yourself to a reward every time you clean.

Maybe you can eat a bar of chocolate when you finish your weekly cleaning? Or maybe you could be extra naughty and have a glass or two of wine after you finish all the cleaning jobs on your list?
